Dressing up as the opposite gender

In the final presentation, I think it is the hardest presentation in our seminar class, but it is also the most interesting at this time. I am responsible to play a role of Daphne. It is an interesting and strange experience that I need to dress up lady's clothes and put something in front of my breast. When I dressed up the lady's clothes, I feel a little cold because I cannot wear my jean to take our video. Anyway, in the process of taking our video, I found it is not easy to make a film. We have to take care to prepare a lot of properties and talk about our action and postitoin. I am glad that my group and me make a good film in such a short time. Although we still have some problems to improve, we did our best about our film. In fact, I understand that taking a good movie needs everyone's effort. I think we lack for a good director. However, as a result of the help of Jamie and Nick, we could finish this presentation well. In my opinion, my favorite part is that I could see people enjoying our film. It represents that people approve of our work.

Streetcar

"A Streetcar Named Desire" is a typical movie to represent the age of 1950s. The story discusssed a culture clash between two symbolic characters. Blanche is a pretentious woman of the old south; Stanley is a rising member of the industrial urban immigrant class. We could see a lot of disagreement of thinking in the movies. Actually, I have to say that "streetcar" is a nice movie which has good actors and a story. However, I don't like the movie. I don't like what Blanche tried to cherish the old memory of high society in her past. It makes her live in the little world alone. I also don't like Stanley because he is rude to women. Besides, I feel so sad about the plot such as Blanche was raped by Stanley and her sister couldn't believe her. I dislike a tragedy. In my opinion, Stanley is the least sympathetic character in the movie. He is really terribel to me. For example, he is always rude to do something, even he hits his wife Stella and he rapes Blanche. Stella is the most sympathetic character in the movie. She loves her sister. However, she is so helpless to give Blanche some assists in 1950s. In the past wowen could not get enough power to live by herself. She is too weak to believe her sister. Maybe she is wrong, but she has no choice. It is a pity to change the fact hardly.

Just like movies

Movies are a kind of presentation of art and entertainment. They are expressed the form and feeling which a director and actors try to show. In the one hand, they might have a lot of fun to be seen as a form of entertainment; in the other hand, they are also artistic to tell and discover some topics. Therefore, I like watching all kinds of movies such as comedy, fiction, science fiction, musical, action, drama, horror, and thriller. It is hard that I need to pick my favorite movie becasue there are so many movies which worth me introducing.

Today, I wish to recommand one of my favorite movies. This movie is "The Pursuit of Happyness". The movie is a true-life story of a single dad who went from living on the streets to owning his own brokerage firm. It was brought to the big screen by Will Smith, and his son Jaden Smith also act together. The story says that a suddenly single salesman who has custody of his son, but finds that providing for the two of them is a challenge in the increasingly unstable economic environment. Therefore, He tries to struggle to work his way from unpaid intern at Dean Witter to something more substantial, even as life continues to offer him setbacks.

Actually, when I saw the movie at first, I could feel very depressed. It is a pity that they are homeless, and they don't have money to afford their life. Everything is so bad that the story makes me see it hardly. Howevr, Will smith never gives up any chance, and he works harder to pursue his hope. Finally, he makes it! I have to say that the director wonderfully express the definition of happiness. At the same time, I also could feel the honest emotion in the movie. I seems to witness the miracle of success. Surely, his earnest creates the path of success.

In my opinion, a good movie must be attractive to people. First of all, it is the most important condition that they need a good story. Moreover, it is uncertain that movies have to spend a lof of costs, and they might not need any superstar. However, they must have a attractive story to make people feel interested. Second, a good director and actors are also very important parts of a good moive. Audiences could see the vivid facial expressions and actions when actors pay more attentions to his or her roles. A good director also could develop the potential ability of actors and help actors advance to understand more details about roles who a director wants to show. Besides, a good director knows how to arrange and organize plots well. To sum up, the elements of a good movie acquires a good story, a good director and good actors. Then, a good movie will be presented before our eyes.

Sally Mann's photos

Acutally, I think Mann's photographs of her children are interesting to me. In these photos, I like the facial expressioin of her children; they are very natural and not weird. Mann combine her children and the background in a natural way. Besides, although her children are naked in these photos, her photos are always presented as black-and-white photos. Therefore, I think they do not give us any sexualized and sensual feeling. She expresses her emotions to her children and records their childhood by these images. Moreover, I don't think she tries to provoke audiences because I believe that she just takes these pictures to show her art attitude in a different view.

However, some people might not accept her photos with naked children. In my opinion, it is not fair for her. There are a lot of artists in the world, and they use all kinds of angles to express their ideas to invent their works of art. Maybe, some of them violate the normal boundaries of social taboos. I think that is their freedom. We should try to accept and not critcize for them.

The feeling of my first seminar presentation

I am glad to have such a nice experience to do my first presentation. First of all, I think beginning is always the hardest part in our presentation. In fact, we could not decide everything quickly, so we need to discuss our idea repeatedly. However, communication is very important way to learn and share opinion each other. Moreover, we can practice our English in our process!

By the way, I was a little worried about finishing our all papers when we talked about "like a prayer" on time because we only discussed and not begin to assign every work to do in our group. Finally, we summarized most ideas, then, I started to design the powerpoint. I really like it! Therefore, I found some picture in the Internet, and I used photoshop7 to modify and design the background. I hope everyone like the picture.

In the presentation, I am still a little nervous, so I am going to try relaxing in the next presentation.

Therefore, I like Jamie's singing in the class, it is very brave and funny. That indeed need the courage, haha.

Our topic is about Madonna. When I meet Madonna, I would prefer to ask her how she has so many ideas to invet in her music? That is very cool and interesting.

In my opinion, Madonna is a controversial superstar. Her special behavior,dating some well-known people or kissing women, always attract eyes of the public. Some parents believe that she has a bad influence on their children, but others people still think she is a cool woman now. Although she has a controversial behavior, I think that she wants to show her real ideas and life. Moreover, she haven't cared about any impression in the public, and she just do herself. She is also smart, and she has a shrewd sensitivity in the fashion field. Therefor, we could see that she alwasy wears gorgeous, special , and fasionable clothes. Besides, in the past disco are very popular in the age of 60s and 70s, so we can find some electronic elements and strong disco style in her music. Different ages reflect different music from beginning to end. That is why she could keep people fascinated all the time. In fact, she is the queen of pop songs, and we all know about it. Her life has already become a part of music!

In my opinion, different age always has styles of song in proportion to it. Black men were treated as slaves. They wanted to release their pressure psychologically and reduced the pain, so they tried to song these music when they are in leisure time. Blues are developed from these songs. Blues has a special mode, I mean, its style include calling and responsing. As a result, when I heard blues, I would feel sad and helpless. However, blues could give me another feeing later, so blues seemed to soothe my mood in the same time. Therefore, I think blues can reflect with the background of history. Moreover, the melody and the lyrics always tell some sad stories, but they also want people to have a dream or hope in the future.

The blues are usually sad. These contents of lyrics have a relation with the darkness for people in life. For example, these lyrics tell that peole are hard in their life, people lose their love, and so on. When we hear some of them, we will feel sad. However, some melody are not so blue to make us feel unhappy, they sometimes are very brisk. I think they just hope people never to give up.

My Boston life

My name is Joe from Taiwan. I have come to Boston about two weeks. In my opinion, everything is interesting to me in America, especially I like snow. As a result, I am curious why people don't play snowball in Boston. It is the first time that I go to America, and I would like to go everywhere. I usually go to some places near my appartment besides studying Englsih. For instance, I usually go to some shopping malls to find food, clothes, slippers and so on.

I like to play basketball with friends, but I don't find any basketball courts near my appartment, so who can tell me where I could play basketball with other persons in Allston? By the way, I think that Boston is a beautiful city, but it is a little cold. I prefer to stay in a warm weather with breeze. Besides, I like to make friends, and I have met some interesting friends here. That is wonderful.

What are my goals for the future? At present, I want to finish my ESL program in UMASS, and I will apply for my graduate school program in marketing. I prefer to major Fashion Merchandising in AAU in San Francisco. Therefore, I really hope all of us could learn a lot in UMASS Boston.
